I was speaking with a good friend and Utility Warehouse colleague tonight about self development and that every once in a while, a book comes into our lives with perfect timing, as if it were written for us personally. The book discussed was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a short fable about following your dream and listening to your heart. How many of us fall short on that front? I’m proud of my self-development library, but have never heard of this title. Yet, interestingly Paulo Coelho first published this book in 1988 and has sold a staggering 65 million copies in over 150 countries. I also discovered that The Alchemist holds the Guinness world record for the most translated book by a living author and is listed as a modern day classic. Given that 65 million people can’t be wrong and my friends overwelming enthusiasm – I’ve just purchased the CD/audio version of The Alchemist via Knowledge is King where it is listed as one of their new titles and on audio for the very first time!
Further insight (borrowed from the Knowledge is King write-up)…Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. This is such a book – a magical fable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life’s path and, above all, follow your dreams. Released on CD for the first time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this modern classic.
This is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who dreams of travelling the world in search of a worldly treasure as fabulous as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers, and from there into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits himWith Paulo’s visionary blend of spirituality, magical realism and folklore, The Alchemist is a story with the power to inspire nations and change people’s lives. At last this charming tale of discovery, meaning and personal growth is available on CD. This audio enhances the fairy-tale quality of the story and is suitable for listeners of all ages. It is as much a motivational/personal development book as it is a great story. [more]
