Yet another outstanding article from the April 2009 edition of Making Money and offering further food for thought regarding the growth of network marketing / the Utility Warehouse in the UK in respect of the financial gloom being faced by so many people. Whilst too many people will continue to avoid the issue, Chris points out the need to embrace change and that this fast growing industry can offer a credible, professional and financially viable alternative to failing careers and financial uncertainty.

"It would be a foolish person who would try and play down the problems that many people are facing at the present time. There is nothing worse than uncertainty to undermine confidence and to leave you frozen like a rabbit in the headlights of a car, not knowing which way to turn. the world is certainly being reinvented around us, and that means only one thing - we need to reinvent ourselves as well if we are to both survive and thrive."

This is a fantastic article that supports the fact that network marketing is booming in the UK and set to do so for a number of years. What an excellent time to be building a passive income with the Utility Warehouse.

Ed Ludbrook is one of Europes most listened to authorities / opinion leaders in the field of direct sales and network marketing. Over the years, he has written many insightful books on the subject and has consulted with many of the UK's primary network marketing companies, as well as being a sought after international speaker.

In the April 2009 edition of Making Money magazine (along with a four page feature article on Telecom plus) is an excellent article by Ed Ludbrook that discusses exactly why the current recession is serving our business sector so well and why he has been predicting / waiting for this recession since 2003.

Interestingly, Ed was involved in some industry consultation around 24-36 months ago, at which time, he published a report, Utility Warehouse & the shake-out boom through Ludbrook Research International. An extract - 'LRI believes Utility Warehouse has a competitive and unique market offer. In the UK, Utility Warehouse has not reached 10% of its potential size. LRI is confident to predict that Utility Warehouse will be one of the companies to lead the Shake-out boom in the UK. Sales of in excess of £500million are possible within a decade, limited only by the company expansion program and network leadership.'

Recessions are terrible for most industries yet are often positive for Direct Sales / Network Marketing. The number of people who either need or would consider an alternative source of income skyrockets. The people willing to attend home events booms and the concerns people have over their finances (to save money) explodes. Yes, recessions are the perfect time to join and build a Utility Warehouse / network marketing business.

At the Annual Financial Times / PLC Awards Dinner, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London (12/03/2009), Telecom plus PLC was recognised as Company of the Year 2008...awesome!

"The winner of this award will be a company that has clearly demonstrated that success is not just a short term phenomenon. The winning company will undoubtedly be successful in share price terms, but with full realisation that share price is but one method of measurement. It will be professionally managed, of course; its long term strategy will be intact, and its growth and development to date will have been soundly financed as befits a conservatively run growth business."

The Company has positive press from the Mail on Sunday, Which?, Share Watch, The Investors Chronicle and now from the most widely read financial broadsheet in the UK, The Financial Times.

How fantastic to open your Sunday paper to find yet another glowing article about Telecom plus! Pre-tax profits up 55% to £9.8 million...dividend up from 4p to 5p...net cash of £29 million...brokers suggesting that profits will rise almost 40% to £23.5 million this financial year and that customer numbers are expected to double by 2010...and all this at a time when the economy is challenged by one of the deepest recessions that the country has ever seen!

This article also references a Company sponsored customer satisfaction survey where 94% of Utility Warehouse customers surveyed said they would recommend the Company and it's services. And the icing on the cake - share prices up 14% from £3.15 to £3.59 at a time when very little on the stock market is showing positive growth.

In their first ever utilities satisfaction survey Which? surveyed over 8,600 of it’s members to see what they thought of their gas and electricity suppliers. With average household energy bills standing at almost £1,300, both gas and electric prices have seen increases in excess of 70% since 2003, leaving many households struggling.

The results of the survey will not please the ‘big 6? energy suppliers, as they found Utility Warehouse to be the best overall supplier with a satisfaction score of 72%, compared to the worst performer, Npower, who came out with a satisfaction score of 32%. The main reasons why Utility Warehouse did so well in the survey were, accurate billing, excellent customer service, quality telephone support and also full marks for value for money. Even though their tariffs will not necessarily be the cheapest at any point in time, they offer their Triple Value Guarantee for customers to ensure great value for money.

This excellent article, written by Investments Editor, Joanne Hart, was published within the Midas / Financial section of The Mail on Sunday on the 13th July 2008 and offers yet more phenomenal third-party credibility of both the Utility Warehouse financial opportunity and the Company's services.

"Any firm promising to make life cheaper is on to a winner, so it is perhaps not surprising that Telecom plus is doing well...it guarantees to be one of the cheapest providers...the company promises to cut utility and phone bills by up to 40 per cent."

Utility Warehouse leads the Shakeout boomTaking stock of this years distributor commission payments exceeding £10m, it's promising to read independent strategic analysis from Ludbrook Research International that predicts sales in excess of £500m within 10 years and that Telecom plus has not yet reached 10% of its potential size.

"The new broadband service is a peach and I’ve already lined up my first customer and potential distributor. All I can say Jeremy, is I’m back and I intend to be wearing a different status pin and perhaps an additional plus club pin as well. Goal setting is the key and I will be working on getting those right this week. After that its activity. I subscribe fully to nothing = nothing, Something = something and something big = something bigger. Here’s to 2006/7."

Andy Coyne

"It was a very good day and well worth while. The image of people being told to stand on their chairs whilst Van Halen is belting out "Go ahead and jump - you might as well jump!" will stay with me for a long time! I've delivered 50 of the new recruiting DVD's since Express Day and already have my first new distributor as a result."

David Muir

"Just wanted to drop you a quick line to say big thank you for your kind hospitality at the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed Express Day it was very uplifting & yes I have signed up as a Distributor. I am going to my first local meeting tonight at Edinburgh and can’t wait for my Starter pack to come through to enable me get out there distributing & recruiting."

Jacqui Thomas

"Wasn't Express Day great! We were unprepared for the sheer volume of great stuff announced and came away truly invigorated. Never so determined to succeed and we have put together a new action plan / targets. One of these is another 50 customers by end of Feb. This is particularly ambitious for us having just moved to Northern Ireland...but we're going to do it. PS. Next year we will put 1000% more effort into inviting folk to Express Day...what a day!"

Craig & Suzanne Walsh

"Just a quick email to thank you for your hospitality at the weekend. We all enjoyed the experience of Telford and it was good to stay with other distributors and find out how they are getting on. We are now all fully focused and determined that next year there will be a lot more new people travelling down as part of the team from Scotland."

Fiona Petrie

"Well all I can say is WOW! I have been to corporate conferences way back in the past and I have to say last Sunday was very impressive. College of Excellence - The road to success starts with a single step!

Overview of The Utility Warehouse College of Excellence training
(Extracts from Utility Warehouse distributor business manual)

It’s a fact that the more success you achieve in the early days of your Utility Warehouse business, the greater the momentum you build for your future. Therefore it is important that you get your business up and running immediately. To help you do that The Company recommend that you should make it a priority to attend The Utility Warehouse Distributor's College of Excellence. This will show you how you can take immediate action in the growth and profitability of your Utility Warehouse business. Statistics show that Executives who attend the College of Excellence are up to three TIMES MORE SUCCESSFUL than those who don’t!

The training provided at the College of Excellence has been put together by some of the most successful Executives specifically to benefit new Executives, and is based upon successful, proven methods that WORK! This means that you do not need to make the same mistakes that some of The Company's original Executives made when they started their Utility Warehouse business, and you can simply learn and earn from methods that have proven to be successful already and duplicate that success, so that you can build your business and income as quickly as you wish.

There are over 20 official Utility Warehouse College of Excellence training venues around the country, which means that our training venues are typically within an hour’s travelling distance of most people. So please make the effort to attend as soon as possible.

College of Excellence – Part 1 Training

The focus of College of Excellence Part 1 training is how to gather your first 12 customers from your warm market, in a simple and non-confrontational way.

In addition, the following is covered:

- How to present the entire range of Utility Warehouse Discount Club products and services using the KISS approach (Keep It Short & Simple!) on a try it (not buy it) basis.
- How to overcome ALL of the objections, and questions, that could be thrown at you by potential customers.
- How to ensure that every new customer can open the door to several more by getting referrals.
- How to turn negatives into positives and how to overcome fear.
- How to get your customers to take a range of Utility Warehouse Discount Club services instead of just one – ensuring more income for you!
- How to recruit your customers as Distributors and how to start building a team.

College of Excellence – Part 2 Training

The focus of College of Excellence Part 2 training is to show you how to sponsor your first three Utility Warehouse Executives and reach the position of Senior Executive in time to maximise the early bonuses. Our experienced, friendly trainers will use their expertise, knowledge and skills in recruitment and team-building to take you through the “prospecting pipeline” from when someone is simply a ‘suspect’ for the business, to when they become a prospect, to when they join.

The training will:

- Help you answer your questions, and overcome any objections and fears you may have.
- Help you understand how to present the Utility Warehouse business in the right way, asking the right questions, and focusing on the benefits, not the features!
- Help you confidently answer common questions like: “ Why should I pay £200?”, “Is this one of those pyramid selling schemes? And “How do I know it’ll work?”
- Help you to understand how your prospect thinks, and we’ll provide you with strategies to overcome the mind monsters that may hold you back from making a success of your Telecom plus business.

You’ll leave your College of Excellence training feeling confident enough to take on, and recruit, the world!

College of Excellence Development Programme for Senior Executives and above

This training programme is exclusively for Utility Warehouse distributors who have reached at least the Senior Executive level. The Company's most senior trainers will provide advice and mentoring on:

- Building your business to the next position, (specific to the individuals attending, based on their current genealogy.)
- Understanding how to use the genealogy effectively; and how to become a proactive Team Leader and sponsor.
- Planning for medium and long term growth by understanding how the ‘time and effort versus income’ curve works.

You’ll hear the secrets of the top Distributors - how they recruit; how they help their team to recruit customers and Distributors; and how they organise their time (despite often having hectic schedules)...and lots lots more!

College of Excellence for Business

The College of Excellence for Business deals very specifically with introducing utility services to business. This training session is open to all Executives who have attended the College of Excellence Part 1 training and it is essential for all Executives who wish to gather Business Club customers.

On registering for this Utility Warehouse training you will be sent a pack of materials which should be read prior to the training session. The training is based on the assumption that the following items have been read prior to attending: the Business Club Information Sheets, the Business Club Tariff Booklet,
the Business Club Application Form (Contract) and the Business Club Manual.

While some of the information in this literature may be expanded upon during the training, you will need to be familiar with the contents before arriving. For this reason, and so that you are registered on the system as having booked and attended the training (meaning your business customer applications will be accepted), please do not turn up for any training session if you have not booked a place.

There will be no training in these sessions for cold-calling or telecanvassing. This training is based on ‘relationship-marketing’ for Executives who have warm contacts and referrals (or the ability and desire to create them!) One of the reasons the College Of Excellence is so successful is that every training centre around the country offers exactly the same training, with the same content and the same key company and product information.

Are you serious?

Remember, 84% of people recently surveyed said they were dissatisfied with their lifestyle, job or income – we have the perfect solution for them, part or full time! Don’t you think that most of the people you know would like to earn more money this year than they did last year? Don’t you think that most of the people you come across would relish the chance to work from home, earn extra income, have extra holidays, pay for the kids to go to private school, retire early or gain a residual income to supplement the pension that might not be as generous as they had once thought?

You have a duty to share this information! You are doing people a favour by telling them about this business…they are not doing you a favour by listening! We’ll teach you that too!

We appreciate you may have some ideas yourself but results of the training have already proved that those who attend are significantly more successful than those who don’t! Some people train for years to allow themselves the privilege of a job that barely allows them to exist – we have a business that can offer the lifestyle most people can only dream of, so it is extremely important that you attend College of Excellence training (and re-attend if you wish).

The College of Excellence really is a must for anybody who is serious about building a profitable Utility Warehouse business. There are a lot of people earning substantial, life-changing incomes with the Utility Warehouse – there are many people having their mortgage paid each month without having to get out of bed – and there are numerous people who are earning that little bit extra which is the difference between living and existing.

College of Excellence testimonials

“I wish someone had made me attend the training before now. I didn’t realise how easy it could be to find customers – This is just what I needed!”

“What an incredible eye opener last Sunday’s training session was! The methods for recruiting customers were so incredibly simple – just a bit of practice needed.”

“I recently attended the excellent and most entertaining Part 1 College of Excellence training in London, and during one of the hilarious yet educational role-play exercises, we were taught how to respond to the objection that the potential customer doesn’t want to pay by direct debit. It was so simple. My only regret is that I didn’t attend the training earlier!”

“Just got back from Part 2 training – stopped at my friend’s shop on the way home and used the simple key question we’d been taught – it was really easy and I got a very positive response. My friend is coming to the next Career Opportunity Presentation! I am really happy – I feel the training has set me on the road to building a great business!”

“I’ve been in the business a couple of years – went to Part 2 training in Liverpool – just worked out why it’s been going slowly for us – we were doing it wrong!! Now we know how to build a business, I’ve already started prospecting people the right way, and had 2 Distributors join within a week of training! Excellent!”

“I recently joined as a Distributor and was urged by my upline to attend the College of Excellence training and I’m very glad I did. The two days were excellent and really helped me to get started. Part 1 showed how to get customers and Part 2 how to build a network of Distributors. It was obvious that the trainers knew what they were talking about and had bags of experience. What I especially liked were the mini role-plays where you had a chance to try things out for yourself.

I have spent my career designing and delivering management courses and was very impressed with the structure of the training and the professionalism with which it was presented. It was all of the highest quality. As a result of my experience, I am insisting that anyone joining my team must attend the College of Excellence, both parts, within three months. It’s crazy to waste such a superb resource."

During the last week, both The Investors Chronicle and The Independent have picked up on the upturn with key financials at Telecom plus Plc (The Utility Warehouse), with The Investors Chronicle declaring “business is in good shape, with the potential to tap into a massive market helped by the trend to bundle utility services” and The Independent stating that Telecom plus is "worth a punt".

The Independent - 14 August 2006
Small Talk: Time to ring up Telecom plus for a bargain buy

In this article, Michael Jivkov of The Independent highlighted that during the last two years Telecom plus shares have lost 70% of their value and that following the Company's deal with nPower back in February, the Company has returned to profitability, with a dividend being announced at its full-year results in June.

A recovery is on the cards for Telecom plus. Chris Mills, the shrewd small-cap specialist who runs Atlantic Value LLP fund, certainly thinks so. He has quietly built up a 4 per cent stake in the company. Telecom plus, which provides electricity and gas as well and mobile, fixed-line and broadband services, has seen its shares drop from 400p in 2004 to close at 121p on Friday because of losses from the energy side of the business. It had failed to hedge its supply contracts and when prices soared, it was locked into contracts to supply gas at too cheap a price.

Also highlighted was the Company's unique referral system for attracting new customers which is much less expensive than traditional advertising and marketing models. Telecom plus also has a fully integrated customer services billing system, which means lower admin costs, and boasts a low "churn" rate of just 1.5 per cent compared with an industry average of 5 per cent.

According to Michael Jivkov, KBC Peel Hunt, the group's broker, expects it to make a profit of £8.3m this year. By 2008, this should have risen to more than £10m, leaving Telecom plus trading at just 10 times earnings, and making its stock worth a punt.

Telecom plus Plc (The Utility Warehouse) recently received further positive coverage in the national press following last weeks AGM statement in relation to this year’s trading.

“At their AGM held today at 11.00am Telecom plus PLC (“the Company”), the UK’s leading integrated multi-utility (gas, electricity, telephony, internet), informed shareholders that so far this financial year the Company has traded satisfactorily and profits have exceeded budget.

Local Loop Unbundling (“LLU”), the process by which third parties install their own equipment in BT local exchanges, has continued to gather pace over recent months. The Company has now reached agreement for the purchase of LLU capacity on wholesale commercial terms, which the directors believe will enable it to achieve a satisfactory margin on its new range of broadband and telephony packages due to be introduced later this year.”

Andrew Hore writing in The Business (16 July) said:

“Telecom plus ran into trouble last year with its energy business, but the problems ended in April……the remaining operations are making profits and trading is exceeding expectations. Telecom plus gets new customers from referral marketing…it is also good at keeping them. Telecom plus also received high ratings for its customer service in a Which? Magazine survey.

Analysts forecast profits of £8.5m in the year to March 2007…when profits start to recover the dividend should rise. The shares are a speculative BUY.”

The Sunday Telegraph (16 July) says that Telecom plus, the utilities reseller,
“could be worth another look”:

“In February, Telecom plus outsourced its energy buying to npower, and now just does the marketing……the Company has a unique low-cost referral system for attracting new customers and has a low churn rate.

Chris Mills, the activist investor, has acquired nearly 4% of the Company through his Atlantic Value Fund. Mills is generally worth watching, so it could be a good time to dial back into Telecom plus.”

Opinions that countIf you have every been involved with a network marketing opportunity, you will have experienced the fact that everone is willing to offer their opinion. Some would argue that 99% of such casual opinion is worthless and seldom the grounds for educated action. If this sentiment is true, then one should surely seek out the minority of people who have an opinion of worth and heed their advice.

In further support of this, it makes sense that if you seek success in a particular endeavour, you would be well advised to obtain the advice of those who can testify to what you are seeking. Why then do so many of us listen only to those people who are broke both financially and mentally, basing life-changing decisions on the advice of those who have nothing that we would want. Crazy!

If you have listened to Jim Rohn's teaching on Network Marketing, then you have made an excellent start. Have a look at the following quotes and testimonials from those whose opinion does warrant a read!

"If I had to do it all over again, rather than build an old style type of business, I would have started building a network marketing business."

Whilst crippling wholesale energy prices may have dampened celebrations this year following an £8m loss during November and December 2005, Telecom plus (The Utility Warehouse) is again back on track. With a 'Good Value' recommendation in the Investors Chronicle of June 9th, profits and dividends are expected to rebound strongly.

Whilst gas prices were previously unhedged, an agreement with npower earlier this year, means that Telecom plus is now far less exposed to the price surges of the wholesale gas market. With this probelm solved, Telecom plus can again focus on it's core business of selling utilities to a growing customer base.

Whilst operating margins may be lower than previously envisaged, the npower agreement has already had a positive impact, with the Telecom plus energy business returning to profitability during the last quarter.

Telecom plus Management said that it is confident of resumed growth of dividend and full return to profitability in the new year, also commenting that little effect has resulted from Carphone Warehouse's recent agressive broadband marketing.

Broker KBC Peel Hunt is forecasting a dividend in 2006-07 of 2.5p, rising to 5.5p in 2007-08. Telecom plus shares look good value.

Sunday 21st May 2006 saw Telecom plus host it's first ever Massive Action Day. 750 self employed Independent Authorised Utility Warehouse Distributors laid seige on Birmingham's Centennial Centre for a day of motivation and celebration, led by several of the Company's top distributors.

Whilst the Utility Warehouse already boasts several thousand authorised distributors, 'MAD' was the largest to date outside of the Company's annual national conference - Express Day, which usually takes place during October.

The day featured key note speaches from National Marketing Directors - Clive Leach and Steve Critchley, along with a rollercoaster ride of distributor led testimonials of success and practical advice for those seeking the ongoing security offered by this unique business. Of particular note was the sheer range of occupations represented from the stage, with 95% of the Company's distributors working their distributorship alongside an existing career.

No common denominator was evident - either occupational, geographical or academic, with represented careers including Accountants, Air Line Pilots, Brick Layers, Property Investors, Farmers, Teachers, Air Stewards, Police Officers, Super Mums etc. If anything, the common denominator was simply a committed interest in escaping a fast evolving Rat Race that the UK is increasingly entering.

Steve Critchley touched on shaky beginnings back in 1997 when the Company launched with just one revolutionary 'least call routing smart box', even eluding to the frustration experienced by most of the Company's first / pioneering distributors, who paved the way to todays Utility Warehouse of 250,000+ customers, 5,000+ distributors and portfolio of industry leading residential and business utility services. Steve talked of a changed opportunity from his early start with the Company, where today, new starters are succeeding faster and in greater numbers than ever before.

Steve supressed the common misconception that this type of business is a 'get rich quick scheme' via a 'warts and all', frank overview of his financial progress since 1997. Of note was the fact that in his first nine months, Steve's earnings amounted to a paltry £95, whilst eight persistent years later, Steve's earnings place him firmly amongst the UK's top 1%...along with increasing numbers of other authorised distributors.

Clearly, The Utility Warehouse offers a tangible business opportunity, requiring consistent effort, but where the potential rewards for part-time hours can well exceed the spoils of a full-time career within just a few short years.

In his great audio - Building your Network Marketing Business, Jim Rohn paints a powerful picture regarding the 'wind of opportunity'. He makes the point that the very same winds blow on us all - winds of hardship, winds of challenge, winds of prosperity and that success does not come only to those who experience the favourable winds.

During the last two years, it would be fair to say that Telecom plus has experienced one or two gales. Business can be like that! Wholesale energy price increases of 400% have impacted the Company's bottom line and this in turn has negatively influenced the Company's share price. Just before Express Day last year, the Company rightly adjusted our claim to being the UK's cheapest energy...instead replacing this with an equally compelling triple guarantee.

Well good people...you must have sensed that the wind has changed and that our sails are now full...the winds of opportunity are now! Last months npower deal is phenomenal news for us all, resulting in a secure future, significant improvements to our compensation plan and the added incentive to gather energy only customers...brilliant.

Just think about it...our business partners now include the second largest communications company in the World - TMobile, along with one of the UK's top three energy suppliers - npower. Did you know that npower currently serves around 6 million customer accounts, is the second largest supplier of energy to the business sector and employs 8,500 people. npower is owned by RWE - Germany's fifth-largest industrial company and ranking among the world's leading multi-utility companies. WoW!!!

Across the Country, Career Opportunity Presentations are buldging at the seams. Last week alone, the Birmingham COP welcomed a record 250 people, including 100 guests and the next evening, numbers at the Bristol meeting were double that of the previous month.

We have new Part 1 & Part 2 training, we have a compelling range of business services, we have both residential and business blackberry (& what a sexy product this is). Did you know that Blackberry users in the UK are set to increase from 750,000 to 11 million users in the next couple of years. Just think about the potential of that and if you have yet to evaluate our range of Blackberry services, I would 100% encourage you to do so. Awesome!

We have highly competitive broadband deals, incredible value mobile tariffs (including the UK's lowest line rental), guaranteed savings versus BT, energy prices guaranteed to be cheaper than British Gas & the main local supplier etc...and lets not forget an infinity compensation plan that is the envy of the Network Marketing industry...including an awesome Holiday Promotion...that everyone of us can still qualify for.

Make it happen

European Business magazine has recently announced that Telecom plus PLC is the fastest growing company in Europe. This is a prestigious accolade and one that represents the successes of the company over the last few years, and is indicative of where the company is headed. Don’t let this fantastic opportunity pass you by, Telecom plus PLC is going places and we’d like you to join us.

Europe's hot 100

“Year in, year out, they pile on double-digit sales growth. And never fail to make a profit. They’re Europe’s elite. They’re alert, entrepreneurially-driven and determined to make it happen for their shareholders.

It’s the European Business HOT 100, the seriously accurate ranking of Europe’s fast-track profiteers. While BusinessWeek’s Top 100 in October allowed members of Brussels-based Europe’s Entrepreneurs for Growth “to nominate themselves for the ranking”, our HOT 100 only recognises companies whose performance has been proven.

We employed a top analytical team to trawl the audited accounts of thousands of stock market-listed companies. And we turned the financial screws on them time and again, demanding more and more, until only 109 remained - only five of which were in BusinessWeek’s ranking.

Telecom plus

The founder of Telecom plus says it is his passion and entrepreneurial ambition that has helped drive the company to the top of this year’s survey. The unorthodox business has been locked in a David and Goliath battle for market share. It relies on customers’ word of mouth to promote its discounted telephone, internet, gas and electricity services.

Chief Executive Charles Wigoder, 44, (left) believes “businesses that are run with inspiration and imagination are invariably more exciting and successful places to be.”

Chief Executive Charles Wigoder, 44, believes “businesses that are run with inspiration and imagination are invariably more exciting and successful places to be.”

He is a seasoned telecoms executive who also has worked as a securities analyst and chartered accountant. He is a sharp-minded businessman who is not afraid to speak his mind.

“What differentiates me from my competitors is my personal involvement in Telecom plus – Telecom plus is my passion,” he says. “My success as an entrepreneur will be judged by the size and profitability of the business I build and I find it enormously satisfying to compete successfully against large multinational companies with far greater financial resources than ourselves.”

He also has talents outside the corporate world. This year he won a major international bridge tournament in Las Vegas competing against the world’s top players. In just over five years, his business has amassed nearly 200,000 domestic and small-business customers, 15,000 of whom sign up new customers in return for a residual income and cheaper utilities.

Trading as the Utility Warehouse Discount Club, Telecom plus is a “virtual” retailer, so has no shops – just a call centre and 180 staff to provide back-up. Low overheads allow Wigoder to offer cut-throat rates, driving average sales growth of 39% over the past three years. “The secret of our success has been our unique business model,” he says. “We also have the ability to move quickly to take advantage of opportunities.”

In contrast, competitors are lumbered with bureaucratic management and costly infrastructure, he says. “We are the only entrepreneurial-focused business in a market which is dominated by former state-owned monopoly suppliers.” Unlike his peers, his remuneration comes largely from dividend cheques – another powerful incentive to perform.

Wigoder wants to gain further market share in the UK. So far it only has 1% of a multi-million pound potential.
